Help students learn how to notice and use social clues to better understand what might be happening in everyday situations!
Noticing Social Clues is a practical social communication and pragmatic language resource for SLPs, teachers, special educators, and parents. Instead of simply showing students a picture and asking, “What is happening?”, this resource teaches them how to notice, find and use helpful social information.
Students are explicitly taught where to look, what to notice, and how to consider several clues together before deciding what might be going on.

The resource includes explicit teaching, key vocabulary, teacher modelling, real-photo examples, guided practice, worksheets, and opportunities to practise the skill across different situations.
An important part of this resource is helping students understand that one clue does not always have one meaning. Students are encouraged to gather information, explain which clues support their thinking, and stay open to different possibilities.
This resource can support goals related to social communication, pragmatic language, social cues, social emotional learning (SEL), social inferencing, flexible thinking, understanding social situations, and perspective taking.
It may be especially helpful for autistic and neurodivergent learners, as well as any student who benefits from clear, explicit teaching of social communication skills.
